What you Should Know before Investing in Bedroom Sets

As the name would suggest, bedroom sets are sets of matching furniture that go in the bedroom to completely pull the interior design of your bedroom together. When it comes to selecting bedroom sets, you need not be in a rush. Remember your bedroom is where you wake up and fall asleep in for the rest of your life. You will want a set that matches your personality and one which you will love.

First and foremost, you need to decide on the finish you want for bedroom sets and the style before you start your search. Unless you are doing a complete bedroom makeover, bedroom sets should be bought to complement the existing carpet and wall colors, of course and décor style. Bedroom sets are meant to be the focal point of the bedroom hence it will have a major effect on the overall ambience of the room.

Bedroom sets generally include either box spring, platform, or metal bed frames, nightstands, dressers, mirrors, chests, and armoires. Be advised that bedroom sets are highly priced therefore; you need to ensure that your investment lasts for as long as you will want. Check on the durability and quality of the furniture or else you will spend an equal high amount of money to replace in the future.

Still on point, when buying bedroom sets for kids, ensure they are sturdy and strong enough to last for many years without breaking. Remember kids will be jumping, pushing, and perhaps even drawing on the furniture. You should further consider purchasing dark colored sets.

Space is a great consideration when thinking of investing in bedroom sets. Decide on the number of pieces you want and measure clearly the amount of space the sets should take up. Some bedroom sets will have five or more pieces while others will only have two. Make a comparison of where the sets will be placed against the measurements to ensure the bedroom doesn’t appear too cluttered.

Remember, your aim should be to create a place that you can relax and unwind after a tiresome and stressful day, while at the same time pull the entire room together.

Teak Wood Coffee Tables as Living Room Centerpieces

Wood coffee tables could be made from any kind of wood but the most preferred material is teak wood. This is due to the amazing qualities of teak wood that make it a special wood material for making coffee tables of gorgeous design. Teak wood is a deciduous timber tree. This tree is grown mainly in India, the Malay Archipelago and around a few places in Indonesia and the Philippines. The hardiness of teak is its specialty and any type of furniture made of teak wood is a piece of artwork. Further, the life of teak wood is quite long compared to all other types of wood.

Teak wood is impervious to scratches and is not affected by mildew. Teak is not affected by pests and termites. In fact, the natural oils present in the teak wood provide it with this unique quality and it remains highly durable, even if it had not been treated with varnish or other types of oil paints. Due to the presence of these natural oils, furniture made of teak wood have a natural gleam that lasts for several years, even without the application of varnish or other polishing materials. The only wood that could remain fresh and new without requiring preservatives is teak wood. Apart from the quality of teak wood as an all-weather timber, the solid fiber and elasticity of teak wood facilitates each woodworking to create beautifully crafted furniture of intricate designs and patterns.

However, genuine teak wood furniture and particularly complete teak wood coffee tables are quite costly, since mature teak is priced considerably higher than other types of wood materials. In the 1950s and 1960s, teak wood became quite popular in the Western world with a style called Danish modern. The trend waned a little after that but of late, living room furniture of teak wood and particularly all-teak coffee tables are getting more demand and are receiving higher attention from homeowners.

Things on Your Coffee Table That Express Who You Are

Who are you? You are what you eat. No, actually, clothes make the man. No, a man is judged by the company he keeps. If there weren't enough ways to read a personality, we're adding another one to the mix – you are what you display on your coffee table. Like it or not, everything you own, everything in your home, says a little bit about who you are.

Coffee tables are no longer just resting places for cups in transit or purses unclenched. They are a little display, a tag almost, that tells visitors about your interests, (or lack of them) your attitudes, and your general disposition.

For instance, a coffee table covered with fashion magazines and tabloids says that you probably aren't interested in the recent elections and that you've once had a crush on Brad Pitt but now prefer Johnny Depp. It also says that you're reasonably concerned about your appearance and that you make an attempt to look nice, as opposed to wearing the same pair of jeans for fifteen years until they either fall apart or don't fit anymore, even if you suck your stomach in and try not to breathe too much.

On the other hand, a coffee table with a book of black and white photography by Ansel Adams says that you have taste, are cultured enough to know who Ansel Adams is, says that you would rather watch Hitchcock's ‘Vertigo’ than 'Scream 12', and that you would like to be taken seriously during discussions about art being just for art's sake.

If your coffee table is covered with an assortment of candles, this can say a few things, depending. If the candles have been lit and used, you have hippie leanings. If the candles have never been lit, but just look really nice in their crystal stand, then you have preppie leanings. If the candles are burned down to the base and there is wax all over your table, and a layer of dust over the wax, then you've probably smoked marijuana at some point in your life, and are content to just let things be. Or you're a slob.

Other things that I've seen adorning coffee table range from china bowls to ash trays (which can again say a lot about you depending on how empty or full they are) to table lamps to jigsaw puzzles to newspapers, to telephones. I've seen a table with a stack of books about wine pairing at a chef's house and playboy magazines at a lawyer’s house (go figure.) I've seen surprising things like pin cushions and cutlery stands in the less organized homes, and even more surprising things like automobile magazines in my grandmother's home. In any case, when I visit a home, I delve into the accumulation of stereotypes in my head and pull one out based on what I see on your coffee table. It's time to put away those lace doilies and bring out the collector's edition scrabble board.

Top 5 Eco-Friendly Furniture to Green Your Home Décor

Going green is one of the most important tendencies right now and it has manifested itself everywhere. No wonder, going green is not only good for your health, it’s good for your conscience as well. What could be better than living well while also making sure you are playing your part in the preservation of the planet? Indeed, the green way of life has also translated into furniture, and here are the best ways to green your home décor.

Buying eco-friendly furniture means more than just buying something that looks natural or light-colored or resembles the look associated with eco-friendly furniture. It means always being aware that actions have consequences and that whatever we consume might not be replaceable tomorrow. As such, getting furniture made out of highly renewable materials, like bamboo, gets you one step closer to a green living.

Go vintage. It’s a trend, of course, and all the celebrities are sporting vintage clothes and furniture, but the green benefit behind this habit is uncountable. Yes, vintage furniture was probably not made with green methods, but it already exists, so by buying vintage furniture, you ensure that no extra resources are used. You can be trendy, stylish and green all in one blow.

Buy locally-made furniture. Most cities have furniture craftsmen working and selling their products even though they often get overlooked in the rush to get something flashier or trendier. The advantage with locally made furniture is that you very often have the chance to better control and customize the furniture you buy, which can lead to interesting and unique variations from what everyone else is sporting. Aside from that, transport would be minimized, which would mean less pollution and fuel consumption, not to mention less of an expense for you.

Buy furniture from places that promote green living and healthy harvesting of the base materials. Companies with a concern for the environment should be supported and promoted, and you can do your part by purchasing products that have been crafted with eco principles at heart. There are a myriad of retailers that carry only environmentally friendly furniture, such as platform beds, dining tables, and coffee tables made from sustainably harvested wood. There are also plenty of other green-only retailers that carry other home furnishings such as rugs and light fixtures like the floor lamp and chandelier that are made from recycled and recyclable materials.

Buy furniture that is built to last. One of the main things that oppose the idea of green living is consumerism. The tendency to replace everything regardless of whether or not it needs replacing, only because a newer model has come out is eating up the planet’s resources at an alarming rate. As such, if you buy something that is durable and that won’t need replacing for a great many years and keep it, you are doing your part in the preservation of natural resources.

Buying eco-friendly furniture is not difficult, you just need to keep your eyes open and think about the big picture.

How to Move Your Bedroom Furniture

Moving is listed as one of the most stressful things that a person can do, so it is important to minimize the pressures associated with shifting around heavy items. Among these, bedroom furniture sets usually seems like some of the most problematic. Disassembling bed frames, lifting dressers, and avoiding damaging glass are some of the common issues faced. There are effective strategies to use when moving to alleviate some of the pains. A few preparatory steps can greatly reduce the chance that your furniture will be chipped or dropped. Even if you are not moving from one home to another and simply wish to rearrange your bedroom, these tips will help.

First, invest in casters or furniture slides. These are usually small plastic discs that are inserted under furniture. With these, you will be able to push and slide your furniture around on the floor. They even work on carpeted floors. These provide a simple way to get your furniture from the bedroom to the front door or moving truck. Even if you are only rearranging your bedroom, the slides will make it very easy to move anything from an armoires to beds. They are relatively cheap, easy to obtain, and can even be reused.

Wrapping furniture is a great way to protect. This depends largely on what you have in your bedroom, however. A wall mirror, for example, should be wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap or nonabrasive cloth to prevent scratches or chips. Bed frames may seem large and intimidating, but they are also relatively easy to protect. Even a poster bed is no problem. Most beds either come with disassembly instructions or have clearly visible points of connection. Once the frame is taken apart, wrap each component in a similar way to that of the mirror. These pieces are easier to carry, as well. There is really no piece of furniture in the bedroom that can’t be simply transported.

Bedroom Furniture Sets: Keep The Theme Together

Contemporary bedroom furniture sets are sold in order to minimize the amount of time it takes to purchase furnishings. By buying furniture for the bedroom separately (that is, buying each piece individually), not only do you run the risk of breaking the design theme but you also may end up paying more. Buying sets may help offset cost in the same way that buying anything in bulk ends up cheaper. Many manufacturers and retailers are willing to make deals and lower prices when consumers decide to purchase a package deal that includes all of the furniture for a specific part of the home. Doing this for a bedroom makes more sense as bedroom furniture is very functional. There are decorative pieces available, but it is likely that everything in a set will be used some way or another.

Nightstands and dressers, for example, are frequently sold in sets. This is due to the fact that every bedroom needs them, and they might as well match. When all of the furniture in a bedroom matches, the appearance is one of uniformity and cohesion. All of the items will be necessary at some point or another, so why not purchase them all together at once? Sets guarantee consistent style as each piece of furniture has been designed with all the others in mind. As the central piece of every bedroom set, the bed should be priority and the starting point to the theme and decor of your bedroom. For example, should you go with a box spring bed, a canopy bed, or a platform bed? Having the right bed can make all the difference when it comes to deciding how you want the rest of your bedroom decor to look and feel.

bedroom furniture sets may seem expensive at first glance, it is important to consider the number of items as well. If purchased separately, it is almost guaranteed that you will pay more in the end. Add to this the benefit of possibly receiving every item for your bedroom at once. It is very likely that the furniture will arrive in one large shipment depending on the vendor. Sets make it possible to immediately have a fully furnished bedroom. There won’t be excessive waiting for those individual pieces of furniture to complete the look.

Tween Bedroom Furniture

The Evolution of Tween Bedroom Furniture
Many parents have children that are at that stage in their lives where they feel like they're all grown up and no longer need Barbie dolls and G.I. Joes for Christmas. Unfortunately, their taste in bedroom furniture also changes. Tween bedroom furniture was manufactured for children ranging from the ages of 8-12 where the furniture style and design is still considered kids furniture, but has an adult-like theme or style. It is that point in their lives where they want to have their own bedroom in need of more privacy. No need to worry parents, it's natural for this to happen. Just keep in mind what to expect when that day actually arrives. On the plus side, you'll be the coolest parents the day you buy your kids tween furniture!

Platform Bed Styles

There are many styles of platform beds for many of us to choose from. Most of them do have a similar attribute, and it's their low-profile. Platform beds are so low to the ground due to the fact that one doesn't need a box spring or mattress support. Usually the only supporting the mattress are wooden slats going horizontally as the base.

I think platform beds are popular because of their simplicity and design preferred by many teens and young adults. For a platform bed, less is more and having one in a bedroom furniture set just makes it easier for you to find matching furniture such as drawers, mirrors, night stands, etc.

Bedroom Furniture for the Guest Room

Choosing Your Guest Room Bedroom Furniture

Guest rooms provide a great and accommodating way to take care of visitors in your home. By outfitting a spare room with the standard bedroom furniture, you will provide a great sleeping alternative to the living room couch. Having friends stay over shows generosity and amiableness. Forcing a friend to sleep on a lumpy couch or uncomfortable floor, however, detracts from your magnanimity. Even the simplest bedroom furniture items are enough to turn any vacant room into a fully furnished and readily usable guest room. Here are some tips on how to maximize the available space while providing the most comfort possible to your visitors.

Try to choose bedroom furniture that is in line with the overall design aesthetic of your home. Having a guest room that is radically different from every other area of your house may be off-putting. Guest rooms are traditionally outfitted with low-key bedroom furniture. Be sure to steer clear of furniture that is excessively ornate or formal. This may cause guests to feel uncomfortable or burdensome. A low-key and casual guest room, on the other hand, will appear warm and welcoming. This is the message you want to send with your guest room, so try to keep things simple.

Be sure that that the bedroom furniture you select provides comfort and ease of use. A guest should be able to step into the room and know exactly what everything is and where it goes. An overly modern or artsy piece of furniture, for example, may cause confusion. Some pieces take style elements to an almost abstract route and are not immediately accessible. Again, the key here is to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. The furniture should feel familiar to them and make them feel that they are in their own bedroom.
